Step 1 — Download Zoom on your computer
Open your web browser and go to zoom.us/download. Click Download under Zoom Desktop Client. Once downloaded, open the file and click Install. Zoom installs in about 2 minutes.
Step 2 — Create a free Zoom account
Once Zoom opens, click Sign Up Free. Enter your date of birth and email address. Open the confirmation email and click the Activate Account link. Create a password and write it down.
Step 3 — Sign in to Zoom
Open Zoom → click Sign In. Enter your email and password. Click Keep me signed in so you don't have to enter them every time.
Step 4 — Joining a meeting someone else organised
Click the link in the email or message from your family member. Or: open Zoom → click Join → type the Meeting ID number → click Join.
Step 5 — Starting your own meeting
Open Zoom → click New Meeting (orange camera icon). Click Invite at the bottom → Invite by Email → type the email addresses of the people you want to invite.
Step 6 — Controls during a meeting
Microphone button (bottom left): click to mute/unmute. Camera button: click to turn video on/off. Leave button (bottom right, red): click to end the call.

You don't need an account to join someone else's meeting. You do need the Zoom app from zoom.us/download.

Zoom works on any standard NBN or ADSL connection — you need at least 1.5 Mbps, which most Australian connections easily exceed.
