TechFix Pro Managed
Backup & business continuity
A backup you've never restored from is a hope, not a plan.
TechFix Pro Managed provides managed backup and disaster recovery for Sydney businesses — automated backup of Microsoft 365, file servers, workstations and line-of-business applications, with regular restore testing and a documented recovery plan. Managed by our Sydney-based team (0434 358 263).
The question isn't whether you have a backup. It's whether you've ever tried to restore from it, whether it covers Microsoft 365 (it probably doesn't), whether ransomware can encrypt it too (it often can), and how long it would actually take to get the business running again. Managed backup answers all of those before you need to ask.
What's included
Microsoft 365 backup
Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams backed up independently of Microsoft — multiple times a day, retained for years, restorable to the item level. A deleted mailbox, an overwritten spreadsheet, a ransomware-encrypted SharePoint library: recoverable in minutes.
Server & workstation backup
Image-based backup of servers and key workstations. Not just files — the whole machine, so a dead server can be spun up as a virtual machine while hardware is replaced. Local copy for speed, cloud copy for disasters.
Immutable, offsite copies
Backups that ransomware can't touch. Air-gapped or immutable storage means even if an attacker gets admin access, they can't delete your recovery point.
Restore testing
Scheduled test restores — an actual file, an actual mailbox, an actual server boot — so we know it works. Reported to you. A backup that's never been tested is a guess.
Recovery time & recovery point objectives
We agree how long you can be down (RTO) and how much data you can afford to lose (RPO), then build the backup to meet it. A café and a law firm have very different answers.
Documented recovery plan
When it goes wrong at 4pm on a Friday, nobody should be working it out from scratch. Who calls whom, what gets restored first, where the passwords are, how staff keep working in the meantime. Written down, tested, kept current.
Line-of-business applications
Practice management, accounting, CRM, POS — the applications that run your business often have their own data stores that generic backup misses. We map them and cover them.
Example tools we work with
Datto SaaS Protection, Dropsuite, Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 for cloud backup; Veeam, Acronis Cyber Protect, Datto BCDR for servers and endpoints; immutable storage via Wasabi, Backblaze B2 or Azure; recovery testing documented in Hudu or IT Glue.
Selection depends on your environment and risk profile. We're not tied to a single vendor.
Common questions
Microsoft already backs up our 365 data, doesn't it?
No — and this is the most common and most dangerous assumption in small business IT. Microsoft guarantees uptime of the service. It does not guarantee your data against deletion, ransomware, malicious insiders or retention gaps. Deleted items have a recovery window (typically 30–93 days) and then they're gone. Microsoft's own service agreement recommends third-party backup.
How often are backups taken?
Microsoft 365: typically 3–6 times daily. Servers and workstations: nightly incremental, with more frequent snapshots for critical systems. Recovery point objectives are agreed per client.
Can ransomware encrypt our backups too?
If backups are on a network share or a USB drive plugged into an infected machine — yes, and it happens constantly. Managed backup uses immutable or air-gapped storage that can't be modified or deleted from a compromised network, even with admin credentials.
How long does a restore take?
Depends on what's being restored. A single email or file: minutes. A full mailbox: under an hour. A whole server from image: hours, with a virtual standby option that can have you running in under 30 minutes while the physical hardware is sorted. We agree recovery time objectives up front.
What about our cloud accounting software — Xero, MYOB?
Cloud applications hold their own data and are generally well protected, but export and archive strategies still matter for records retention and for scenarios where an account is compromised. We include line-of-business applications in the recovery plan.
